I am a knife selling machine
Late in October, I answered a vague ad on Monster.com which read, “Vector Marketing is seeking holiday help.” Hours later, I received a call asking me if I was free that night for an interview, in fact I was, so I went. Later that night, after I returned home from my first and second interviews, I got the call congratulating me on my new job as a Vector Marketing Sales Rep. I was about to start showing Cutco knives to the masses.
A little over a month later and I have hit two promotion steps and am well on my way to my third by the end of year. For anyone out there who might be doubting that this job can make you money, stop.
I am also well aware of the negative reputation that my company has. Some say that we prey on friends and family who buy our products out of sympathy rather than the quality of our product. They say that we lie to our customers and that we are ill equipped to sell high end cutlery because we do not know the science behind how knives are constructed. They also say that there is no money in selling Cutco and the company makes it hard to get paid for the appointments a rep performs. I even read an argument about how unfair it was that they had to call in every day to their district manager to check in a update him or her on their progress.
Those who make claims like these more often than not, failed to put in the work. They were looking for easy money and got pissed off when they found out that just like every other job they have had, or ever will have for that matter, requires an IMMENSE amount of time and energy. They are the ones that went out on their training appointments TRYING to play on their families sympathies rather than letting the product do the work for them and finding out what combination worked best for the individuals. They missed the point of the job all together. It was just not for them, and they wanted to place blame rather than take responsibility for their shortcomings.
So far in my short time with Vector I have realized that 1. People ARE making money selling knives, don’t believe me? Ask the people I met last week making over $2000 a week, not selling, but seeing that amount on their PAYCHECKS each week.
As for the people complaining about not getting paid for the appointments, the cure to that is simple… make more on your commissions each week than you would on appointments, it’s that simple. It is true that even if you do not make a sale, you get credit for doing a QUALIFIED appointment, but with our product, all you would need to do is make 4 sales a week to earn your commission check over what you would make per appointment. Make THAT your goal rather than just going into appointments aiming to make the $12.50 you get for just walking through the door. Like me, you will stress less before during, and after the appointment.
I know I went off on a bit of a tangent, but I have read so many trolls bash the company and the product that I thought I would stand up for the system and the quality of the knives we sell. I also wanted to say thank you to all of you who have helped me continue to perform at the level I have been and look forward to meeting with those of you who I have not met with. I have had fun working for Vector and will soon be making a very decent living selling knives…..
Keep hating, haters.
